No Garden Waste in Bins
Garden waste is not permitted in grey and green bins in Kirklees. However, there are several convenient ways of dealing with your garden waste including
Home composting
Order low cost home compost bins and make your garden bloom with your own homemade compost. Remember you can also compost shredded paper, cardboard, vegetable peelings, tea bags and egg shells which all helps towards cutting down on the waste in your grey bin. Kirklees residents can purchase low cost home compost bins through a partnership scheme between the council and an organisation called WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme). 220 litre compost bins are available at £17, 330 litre compost bins are available at £20 and a square style 250 litre compost bin is £40. All bins come with free delivery. Kirklees residents can either call the order line on 0845 077 0757 quoting reference HCA2, download a form (PDF Document) to print out and post
or visit www.recyclenow.com/compost to order online.
The current offer is available until March 31st 2009 and Kirklees residents are allowed up to 3 compost bins per household through this scheme.
Household Waste Recycling Centres
Garden waste skips are available at all Household Waste Recycling Centres in Kirklees. The garden waste is then sent to a site in Dewsbury to be composted.
Free garden waste collections
The free garden waste collection service has been extended to include woody waste such as tree branches and hedge trimmings. All materials will be collected separately and composted. Garden waste should be securely bagged and woody waste should be in manageable amounts or bundles so it is easy to handle.
